Vad är API?
API är förkortning för "Application Programming Interface". Så ett API är ett gränssnitt: Det ansluter programvara och hårdvarukomponenter, till exempel applikationer, hårddiskar eller användargränssnitt.
- Vid programmering standardiserar API: er dataöverföringen mellan programdelar, till exempel moduler och program.
- Komplexa program kan inte längre klara sig utan API: er. Enskilda programdelar, så kallade moduler, är inkapslade från den faktiska koden. Modulerna kommunicerar sedan endast via API: n.
- Enkelt uttryckt översätter API: er programvaran till maskinspråk, vilket gör det läsbart för olika komponenter.
Varför behöver du API: er?
- Tack vare programmoduler och tillhörande API: er är komplexa program enklare att underhålla. Ett API använder data som skickas för att testa om modulen fungerar korrekt. Detta gör det lättare att hitta och korrigera fel.
- Dessutom fungerar API: er som datasändare inom programvaruområdet: innehåll kan utbytas mellan olika webbplatser och program med API: er.
